You are absolutely correct in your assessment of Pickleball growth. In 2015, the Tumbleweed Recreation Center began receiving requests for pickleball courts from Chandler residents. Staff worked with the Pickleball community to figure out the logistics of offering the sport in the gym and play began on March 22, 2016 on Tuesday and Thursdays. On June 4, 2016, the Tumbleweed Recreation Center added Saturday morning play. We began with two courts and are now up to four courts. During the weekend of March 10-12, 2017, the annual resurfacing of the gym floor will be completed and permanent Pickleball court lines will be painted on the floor. In addition, beginning on March 27, 2017, two Pickleball classes are being offered at the Tumbleweed Recreation center.
Arrowhead Meadows Park currently has 4 lighted tennis courts that are open to the public on a first come first serve basis. The plan is to convert two of the existing courts to permanent pickleball courts in early summer.
There is one converted pickleball court at Apache Park. We will continue to assess the need for additional pickleball courts.
